How is a breast lift performed?
Dr. Maribel Ruiz, a specialist in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, performs mastopexy in a hospital in Malaga or on the Costa del Sol.
This surgery lasts between 2 and 3 and a half hours, and is performed under general anesthetic. During this surgery, Dr. Maribel Ruiz removes excess skin and tightens the breast tissue. This surgery can be combined with a breast augmentation, thus changing the size and reshaping the breast. Scars are left discreetly in places where they are hidden under a bikini or bra.
Mastopexy can also be performed to reduce the size of the areola (nipple), giving the breast a more youthful appearance.
After a Mastopexy/Breast Lift
After performing the breast lift in Malaga, the patient may feel tired for two or three days, but after that she can continue with a normal life. The stitches will be removed between seven and fourteen days later.
What type of implants does Dr. Maribel Ruiz use?
Dr. Maribel Ruiz uses Mentor prostheses (implants), which is a market leading brand and are trusted for their quality and durability.
The exact lifespan of the prostheses (implants) cannot be determined beforehand. They can last up to 15 years or even longer.
In the event that an implant is found to be deformed or if an implant ruptures, Mentor offer a lifetime guarantee. In these cases, Mentor will provide you with new implants free of charge. If in the future there are complications such as capsular contracture, the brand guarantees to provide new implants up to 10 years after surgery.
What types of implants are there?
Rounded implants vs. Anatomical (teardrop) implants.
Round
Round implants contain a silicone gel of moderate density that moves when the woman’s position varies, thus giving a very natural appearance both in movement, and in sight and touch. Being uniformly rounded, they do not present particular positioning problems. They are available in different levels of projection (low, medium and high).
Anatomical
Anatomical (teardrop) implants offer natural results thanks to their shape, which is similar to that of the natural breast (referred to as teardrop-shaped). They have a high-density cohesive gel that remains compact without diffusing into the tissues in the evento of implant rupture. There is a wide availability of models adaptable to almost any individual.
In case of rupture of the anatomical prosthesis, the cohesive gel remains very compact, without any tendency to migrate towards the neighboring tissues. In addition, with the condition known as tubular breasts and those that need a greater filling of the lower part of the breast, anatomical implants offer better chances of success thanks to their shape, with greater volume and projection in the lower part of the breast.
Regarding the balancing of size (volume), it is the difference in the shape of the implants that determines the final appearance of the breasts: implants with a high profile giving a greater projection, anatomical implants make the lower pole more prominent, whilst round implants cause a visual effect of less filling, but of greater extension. These differences are more evident in the implants placed behind the gland, while they are less evident in those placed behind the muscle.
Size of the implants
It is important to understand that the larger the implant, the more likely it is for gravity to have a negative effect and see the implant drop over time because heavier breasts have more tendency to drop downwards over time.
Dra. Maribel Ruiz will explain to the patient what can happen if an inappropriate size of implant is chosen. To do this, she will explain how to classify the breasts according to the cup system (AA, A, B, C, D, DD) and will show you real photos of patients. The dimensions of the implants must be chosen according and within the limits of the individual’s size, shape and frame.
