What are the indications that a breast implant replacement is necessary?
Sometimes simply by touch, changes or differences in the breasts can be felt that could be indicate that there has been a deterioration in the implant.
If a breast implant is one of the older types and is filled with saline, a decrease in the volume of the breast may be noticeable, which would indicate that the content has leaked out of the implant and is being reabsorbed by the body.
Capsular contracture is also another common sign that an implant replacement is necessary .
To understand how a capsular contracture occurs, it is important to understand that when a breast implant is placed, the body produces a thin and elastic membrane around it that surrounds the implant. Sometimes the membrane becomes stiffer than normal until it causes contraction of the entire capsule. This can be seen with the naked eye and requires replacement of the breast implants, although in this case it has not occurred due to a deterioration or breakage of the implant.
How is breast implant replacement surgery performed?
The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and lasts between 2 and 3 hours. Dr. Maribel Ruiz will determine which area of the breast the small incision will be made through which she will extract the old implants and insert the new ones.
Once the implants are removed, the need may arise for additional techniques, such as removing scar tissue, extracting leaking silicone gel from the implant, or performing a breast lift.
How long do breast implants last before a replacement is needed?
What are the risks and complications associated with breast implant replacement?
How long does recovery take after a breast implant replacement?
After surgery, the patient will be bandaged to support the breasts correctly so as to avoid accidental dislodging of the implants during the recovery period.
This bandage will be removed approximately one week later and the patient will then wear a non-wired sports bra instead, which she should wear for another two months.
It is very important to rest after the surgery. The patient can resume gentle activity after the first two or three days post surgery. If you work a physical job especially using your arms, you should not return to it for a month. On the other hand, if your work is not physically intense, you can return to work within 2 weeks of the surgery.
If you feel any kind of pain beyond the typical discomfort of this type of surgery, Dr. Maribel Ruiz Ruiz will prescribe appropriate painkillers for the first few days.
Dr. Maribel Ruiz will give you the appropriate guidance to take care of the wounds using moisturizing creams and silicone patches so that the scars heal well.
During the first two weeks after surgery, the patient must refrain from any strenuous physical activity. You will be able to resume sport and exercise after 1-2 months.
What is the price of breast implant replacement surgery?
The price is calculated taking factors in to account such as the type of implants, patient characteristics, the extent of the problem, the condition of the implant to be removed and the intervention required for the replacement implant, the chosen hospital, the costs of the operating room and medical team, as well as the surgeon’s fees, etc.
Therefore, the price cannot be confirmed until after a consultation, however implants can be replaced with the highest quality implants from €4,500.
